Ecological Civilization Education International Ecological School Project

The International Eco-School Project (Eco-School, ES) is one of the five environmental education projects promoted globally by the International Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). It is the largest environmental education project for teenagers in the world today and aims to help schools improve local environment, conserve resources and reduce their carbon footprint. This project is also the first global environment and sustainable development education project launched in China after the Education Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment joined the International Environmental Education Foundation as the only representative institution in China. Currently, more than 50 countries around the world (FEE national member organizations) have launched international eco-school projects, covering Asia, Europe, Africa, America and Australia, and have formed a global eco-school network and resource platform to promote a school-wide environment and capacity building in education for sustainable development. The Eco-Schools network is still expanding. FEE has established good cooperative partnerships with relevant United Nations agencies, such as UNEP, UNESCO, UNDP, etc. FEE’s eco-school project has also been recognized by the United Nations’ Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD) and supported as an outstanding project.

In order to promote my country's school environment and sustainable development education to a new level, and provide my country's green schools with a broader development space and a stage for display, the Publicity and Education Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment officially launched the International Eco-School Project in China in 2009 . As of 2021, a total of 592 schools in China have received this honor. At the end of 2021, this project will introduce the implementation of SDGs goals into the application for the eleventh batch of International Ecological School Green Flag Honors for the first time. Schools that successfully apply in 2022 will have the opportunity to be certified as SDGs general education pioneer schools of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Public Education and Participation Project (referred to as SDGs #39168 project).
